About Mission of Saint Francis Xavier, Lambaréné

Lambaréné is a town on the Ogooué, the great river of Gabon, built partly on an island in its stream. It became famous through Albert Schweitzer, the doctor, organist and thinker who founded a hospital here in 1913 and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952; his hospital still works today. The Catholic mission of Saint Francis Xavier, run by the Spiritan fathers, is one of the oldest in the country. This photo shows its brick church and mission buildings among tall palm trees.

Puzzle tip: start with the red brick church and its tower, then the mission buildings and the palms, and the sky last.
