About Salt Ridge and Acid Pools, Dallol

Dallol sits on top of a buried volcano in the Danakil Depression. In 1926 hot water and steam blasted out a crater here, and the ground is still warm today. Ridges of salt, stained red and brown by iron, wind between pools of green and yellow water. Visitors come only with guides and armed escorts, early in the morning, because the heat later in the day is fierce and the fumes from the springs are harmful.

Puzzle tip: the long red ridge runs across the picture, so build it first; the green pools on either side come next.
