About Guelta d'Archei, Ennedi

The Guelta d'Archei is the most famous pool of the Ennedi Massif in Chad, hidden at the end of a deep, narrow canyon. Every day herds of camels walk in from the desert to drink from its dark water, and their bellowing echoes off the high rock walls. The guelta is also one of the last places in the Sahara where a few small crocodiles still survive, left over from a time thousands of years ago when the desert was green. This photo looks down into the canyon from above, past rounded sandstone walls.

Puzzle tip: start with the rounded orange rock walls, then the shaded canyon floor, and the small pool of water last.
