About Heddal Stave Church and Its Churchyard

Heddal Stave Church is about twenty metres long and twenty-six metres high, and from the outside it is ringed by an open gallery that protected the walls from rain and gave people shelter before services. Its doorways are carved with twisting vines, animals and masks, and inside there are painted walls and a bishop's chair from the Middle Ages. Around it lies an old churchyard with gravestones in the grass, and a small museum nearby tells the church's history. In this photo the honey-coloured wood of the church glows in the sun under a clear blue sky, framed by green trees.

Puzzle tip: start with the towers and the crosses on top, then the wooden walls and the gallery, and finish with the trees and the blue sky.
