About Hohenzollern Castle above the Swabian Plain

Hohenzollern Castle crowns a lonely, cone-shaped hill on the edge of the Swabian Alb, in south-western Germany. It is the ancestral seat of the Hohenzollern family, who became kings of Prussia and, from 1871, German emperors. The castle we see today is the third on the hilltop: King Frederick William IV of Prussia had it rebuilt in the Gothic Revival style between 1850 and 1867, with many towers and turrets. On misty autumn mornings it often seems to float above a sea of fog. In this photo its towers rise above the forest and the hazy plain.

Puzzle tip: the castle's towers are the best place to start; the misty plain behind them is pale and even.
