About Market Square, Wrocław

Wrocław, on the River Oder in south-western Poland, has one of the largest medieval market squares in Europe. Tall merchants' houses painted in every colour stand around it, and in the middle rises a Gothic town hall with an ornate gable and an astronomical clock. The city is spread over a dozen islands linked by more than a hundred bridges. For centuries it belonged to Bohemia, Austria and Prussia, under the German name Breslau, and became Polish in 1945. Today visitors also hunt for its hundreds of small bronze dwarfs hidden on pavements and walls.

Puzzle tip: start with the tall coloured houses and their gables; the cobbles and the sky come last.
