About Mauna Loa Erupting, Hawaii

Mauna Loa, on the Big Island of Hawaii, is the largest active volcano on Earth: it rises about 4,170 metres above the sea, and its base lies some 5,000 metres below the ocean surface. Its name means 'Long Mountain' in Hawaiian. After 38 quiet years it erupted again on 27 November 2022, when cracks opened along its northeast rift zone and rivers of lava flowed down its slopes for almost two weeks. This photo, taken by the US Geological Survey on 28 November, shows the glowing fissures and lava flows.

Puzzle tip: the bright lines of lava are the easiest pieces; the dark slopes and the smoke need the most patience.
