About Former Hokkaido Government Office, Sapporo

The Former Hokkaido Government Office, known in Sapporo as Akarenga, the red brick, was completed in 1888 in a Western style inspired by American public buildings. For eighty years it housed the government that ran the settlement of Hokkaido, and its octagonal dome rises above the trees of the garden in front. In this photo, taken on a winter day, the red brick building stands behind its iron gates, with bare trees and patches of snow in the garden.

Puzzle tip: start with the red brick walls and the green dome, then the trees, and finish with the gates and the ground.
