About Old Town of Ghadames from Above

Ghadames, an oasis town near the borders with Algeria and Tunisia, is often called the pearl of the desert. Its old town is a maze of houses built of mud, lime and palm wood, packed so tightly together that the streets run like covered tunnels below them, keeping out the heat. The women used to walk over the flat rooftops, which form a second town above the first. Old Ghadames is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This aerial photo shows the rooftops of the old town and the palm gardens around it.

Puzzle tip: start with the pale rooftops and their courtyards, then the green palm gardens, and the sandy edges last.
