About Rovinj from the Sea

Rovinj stands on the west coast of Istria, the peninsula in the north of Croatia. Its old town was built on an island, which was joined to the mainland only in 1763, when the narrow channel was filled in. At the top of the hill rises the Church of Saint Euphemia, whose bell tower, about sixty metres high, was modelled on the one of Saint Mark's in Venice; a copper statue of the saint on its top turns with the wind. Rovinj was ruled by Venice for five hundred years, and Italian is still spoken here alongside Croatian.

Puzzle tip: start with the bell tower and the houses at the water's edge; the boats come next, and the sea and sky go last.
