About Sandstone Peaks in Autumn, Zion

The southern entrance of Zion National Park, near the town of Springdale, is surrounded by tall sandstone peaks. Their rock was laid down as desert dunes about 190 million years ago, and the angled lines you can see in many cliffs are the slopes of those old dunes, now turned to stone. In autumn the cottonwood trees along the Virgin River turn yellow, and the temperatures are milder than in the hot summer. This photo shows red and white peaks above yellow trees, dry grass and dark green junipers.

Puzzle tip: begin with the peaks against the blue sky, then sort the yellow trees, dry grass and dark junipers below.
