About Victoria Street, Edinburgh

Victoria Street curves down from the Royal Mile to the Grassmarket in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town. It was laid out in the 1830s to make the steep climb easier, and its colourful shopfronts sit below a raised terrace that runs along the upper side of the street. Lined with old bookshops, cafés and little independent stores, it is often called the most photogenic street in the city.

Puzzle tip: the brightly painted shopfronts and the line of bunting give you colourful edges to start with; the grey stone and cobbles come later.
