About Winding Road over the Sheikh Pass

The road from the port of Berbera to the inland town of Burao, in the north of Somalia, climbs the steep Golis Mountains in a long series of hairpin bends to the town of Sheikh. Built in the 1970s, it is one of the most spectacular roads in the Horn of Africa, rising from the hot coastal plain into a cooler, greener land of acacias and grazing camels. Lorries carrying livestock to Berbera's port, which ships millions of sheep and goats to Arabia every year, wind slowly up and down it. This photo shows the road winding through the green hills.

Puzzle tip: start with the grey road and its bends, then the green hills, and the far valleys and the sky last.
