About Wooden Houses of Ganvié

Seen from a canoe, Ganvié is a village of wooden houses raised on tall poles above Lake Nokoué, many with roofs of thatch or corrugated metal. People here live from fishing: around the village they build acadjas, underwater enclosures of branches where fish gather and breed. Ganvié is often called the Venice of Africa and is on Benin's tentative list for UNESCO World Heritage. This photo shows a row of stilt houses along the water, with their reflections in the lake.

Puzzle tip: start with the wooden houses and their thatched roofs, then their reflections, and the sky and the water last.
