About Djibouti
The Afar and Issa peoples have lived here as nomads and traders for centuries. France made the territory a colony in the 1880s and built a port and a railway to Ethiopia, and Djibouti became independent in 1977. Its port is now one of the busiest in East Africa.
You can assemble the salt shore and volcanic hills of Lake Assal, the lowest point in Africa, Ghoubbet Bay and Devil Island, the fishing boats and white houses of Tadjoura, a beach on Moucha Island and Place Menelik in Djibouti City.
