About Liberia
Liberia was founded by freed African Americans from the United States, who began to settle here in 1822, and in 1847 it became Africa's first independent republic; its capital is named after the American president James Monroe. Inland, the country holds a large part of the Upper Guinean rainforest, home to forest elephants, chimpanzees and the rare pygmy hippopotamus.
You can put together fishing boats on the beach at Robertsport, fishing canoes in front of Monrovia, a fishing village on the coast, fishermen at sea off Monrovia and a pier at sunset in Margibi.
