Gyeongbokgung, built in 1395, was the main royal palace of the Joseon dynasty, which ruled Korea for five centuries. Visitors enter through the great Gwanghwamun Gate and walk past throne halls to the Hyangwonjeong Pavilion, a small hexagonal pavilion on an island in a lotus pond.
Nearby, Bukchon Hanok Village keeps hundreds of hanok, traditional Korean houses with curved tiled roofs and wooden frames, built around courtyards. Many visitors explore the area wearing hanbok, the traditional Korean dress.
