Route 66 opened in 1926 and ran for almost 4,000 kilometres from Chicago to the Pacific, through eight states. Families, truckers and dreamers followed it west, and the towns along the way filled with petrol stations, diners and neon-lit motels. The road was officially retired in 1985, but long stretches of it survive as Historic Route 66.
This journey starts at the “Begin” sign in downtown Chicago and crosses the Mississippi on the Chain of Rocks Bridge. It rolls through the plains of Oklahoma to the Art Deco towers of the U-Drop Inn in Texas, then on to the glowing Blue Swallow Motel in Tucumcari and old Santa Fe in New Mexico.
In Arizona come the striped hills of the Painted Desert, the teepee rooms of the Wigwam Motel, a detour to the Grand Canyon, the old shops of Seligman and Hackberry, and the wild burros of Oatman in the Black Mountains. The last stretch crosses the Mojave Desert past Roy’s Motel in Amboy and ends at the Pacific, on Santa Monica Pier. Each stop you finish unlocks the next.
Finish each stop to unlock the next. You can play at any size; the next stop opens with the same number of pieces.
