About Dom Luís I Bridge, Porto

The Dom Luís I Bridge crosses the River Douro between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia on a single iron arch, with a road on its lower deck and the city's metro running across the top. When it opened in 1886, its arch was the longest of its kind in the world. It was designed by Théophile Seyrig, a former partner of Gustave Eiffel. At dusk the bridge and the riverside Ribeira district light up together.

Puzzle tip: follow the lit iron arch across the picture first; the dark river and the evening sky come last.
