About Metasequoia Avenue in Autumn, Gwangju

Tall metasequoia trees line a path in Gwangju, a city in the south-west of South Korea, and in late autumn they turn a warm rusty orange. The metasequoia, or dawn redwood, was known only from fossils millions of years old until living trees were found in a remote valley in China in the 1940s. Since then it has been planted all over the world. Like the larch, it is a conifer that loses its needles every winter, after its brilliant autumn colour.

Puzzle tip: the straight path in the middle is the easiest guide; the tall trunks on each side come next.
