About Autumn Vineyards above the Danube, Wachau

The Wachau Valley follows the Danube through Lower Austria between Melk and Krems. Wine growers have shaped its steep hillsides into stone-walled terraces, some of which are visible above the river in this aerial view. Weißenkirchen is one of the valley’s wine villages and lies among these slopes. The Wachau is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape because its settlements and farmland grew together with the river setting. In autumn, the vines turn gold and brown, creating bands of colour beside the blue Danube.

Puzzle tip: start with the parallel vineyard rows; the river and bright sky can be completed last.
