About Lavender Rows on the Valensole Plateau

The Valensole plateau in Provence is the best known lavender landscape in France. Most of what grows here is lavandin, a hardy cross between true lavender and spike lavender that gives more oil and is used in soaps and perfumes. The fields bloom from late June to mid-July, when the air smells of lavender and the hum of bees is everywhere; harvest starts soon after. Long straight rows run across the plateau between wheat fields and almond trees. In this photo the purple rows lead the eye to a pair of lone trees and distant blue hills.

Puzzle tip: start with the two trees and the blue hills on the horizon, then the purple rows, and finish with the pale evening sky.
