About The Palais de l'Isle on the Thiou, Annecy

Annecy, at the northern tip of Lake Annecy in the French Alps, is often called the Venice of the Alps because of the canals of the river Thiou that run through its old town. In the middle of the river stands the Palais de l'Isle, a twelfth-century building shaped like the prow of a stone ship. Over the centuries it served as a residence for the lords of Annecy, a courthouse, a mint and a prison, and today it is a small museum of the town's history. In this photo it rises from the canal between pastel houses, with mountains behind.

Puzzle tip: start with the Palais de l'Isle and its pointed roof, then the colourful houses, and finish with the canal and the mountains.
