About Castelnaud Castle and the Dordogne River

The castle of Castelnaud rises on a wooded hill above the meeting of the Dordogne and Céou rivers, facing its old rival Beynac. It was besieged and changed hands several times during the Middle Ages, and today it houses a museum of medieval warfare, with armour, weapons and full-size siege engines such as catapults and trebuchets set up on its terraces. The Dordogne valley around it is dotted with castles, villages and farms, and canoeing down the river is a favourite summer pastime. In this photo the castle tops the hill above a stone bridge reflected in the clear river.

Puzzle tip: start with the castle on the hill, then the bridge and its arches, and finish with the trees, the water and the sky.
