About Fyrish Monument in the Fog, Easter Ross

The Fyrish Monument stands on a hilltop above the village of Evanton, in Easter Ross in the Scottish Highlands. It was built in 1782 by Sir Hector Munro, a local landowner and general, and is said to copy the gate of Negapatam, a town in India that he had captured the year before. He had it built partly to give work to local people at a time of poverty, when many were losing their land. On a clear day the arches look out over the Cromarty Firth; in fog they appear like the ghost of a ruined castle. In this photo the arches loom out of the mist above the heather.

Puzzle tip: the brown heather in front is the easiest part; the arches and the fog are pale and soft.
