About Palazzo Vecchio in Piazza della Signoria, Florence

Palazzo Vecchio stands on Piazza della Signoria, a square that has been at the centre of Florentine public life for centuries. Begun at the end of the thirteenth century, the palace was built for the city's government and later became a residence of the Medici family. Its stone walls, battlements and tall clock tower give it the appearance of a fortress. In this photograph, the palace rises above the busy square, with the open arches of the Loggia dei Lanzi beside it.

Puzzle tip: assemble the clock tower and roofline first, using the rows of windows to connect the stone walls.
