About Hartebeest at a Waterhole, Pendjari National Park

Pendjari National Park in the far northwest of Benin is one of the best-protected wild areas left in West Africa. Together with parks in Niger and Burkina Faso it forms the W-Arly-Pendjari complex, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it is one of the last strongholds of the West African lion. In the dry season, elephants, buffalo, antelopes and many birds gather at the few remaining waterholes. This photo shows hartebeest and wading birds at a pool called Mare Bali.

Puzzle tip: start with the antelopes and the birds, then the shore and the trees behind, and the pale water last.
