About Anak Krakatau Volcano, Sunda Strait

In August 1883 the volcano of Krakatoa, in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra, blew itself apart in one of the most violent eruptions in history. The explosions were heard nearly 5,000 kilometres away, and the tsunamis they raised killed more than 36,000 people. In 1927 a new volcano rose from the sea where the old island had stood: Anak Krakatau, 'the child of Krakatoa'. It has grown and erupted many times since, and in December 2018 part of it collapsed into the sea and caused another deadly tsunami.

Puzzle tip: the grey cone of the volcano is the place to start; the sea and the sky around it fill in after.
