About Beach on Gizo Island

Gizo is a small island in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands, and its town is the provincial capital and a base for divers and surfers. Not far away lies Kennedy Island, where in 1943 the young John F. Kennedy and his crew swam to safety after their patrol boat, PT-109, was sunk in the Second World War. In 2007 a strong earthquake caused a tsunami that struck Gizo and nearby islands, and the town has since been rebuilt. Its white beaches look out over clear, shallow water towards the volcanic island of Kolombangara.

Puzzle tip: start with the pale sand and the line of the shore; the shallow water changes colour, which helps to place it.
