About Camel on the Beach, Mombasa

Mombasa, Kenya's second city, stands on an island on the Indian Ocean coast and has been a trading port for more than a thousand years, linking Africa with Arabia, Persia and India. Its old town keeps narrow lanes, carved wooden doors and Fort Jesus, built by the Portuguese in 1593. North and south of the island stretch beaches of white coral sand lined with palms, where the Swahili culture of the coast mixes with tourism. On some beaches camel rides are offered to visitors. This photo shows a camel with a colourful saddle being led along the sand.

Puzzle tip: start with the camel and its bright saddle, then fill the white sand and the trees behind.
