About Canoe in the Mangroves, Gambia

Along the lower River Gambia, salt water and fresh water meet in a maze of creeks, called bolongs, lined with dense mangrove forest. The tangled roots of the mangroves shelter young fish, oysters and crabs, and the creeks are home to herons, kingfishers, pelicans and even manatees. Women from nearby villages harvest oysters from the roots, and visitors explore the bolongs in quiet wooden canoes. This photo shows a colourful canoe gliding along a mangrove creek, with the trees reflected in the still water.

Puzzle tip: start with the canoe and the people in it, then the mangrove trees, and their reflections in the water last.
