About Church of the Good Shepherd, Lake Tekapo

The Church of the Good Shepherd stands beside Lake Tekapo on New Zealand’s South Island. Built in 1935 from local stone, it commemorates the early settlers of the Mackenzie district and remains an active place of worship. The lake’s blue-green water gets its colour from fine rock particles carried down by glaciers. In this view, the church’s dark stone walls contrast with the pale grass, the lake and the mountains beyond. Its small scale and simple shape make it a distinctive landmark in the open landscape.

Puzzle tip: build the dark roof and stone walls first, then use the shoreline to divide lake from land.
