About Coastal Road through a Rock Arch, Jijel

The coast road between Béjaïa and Jijel, in north-eastern Algeria, is one of the most beautiful drives in North Africa. It was cut into steep cliffs above the Mediterranean, and in places it passes through tunnels and natural-looking arches in the rock. While the road was being built in 1917, workers discovered the Grottes Merveilleuses, caves full of stalactites that are now open to visitors. Nearby, Taza National Park protects forests of cork oak and is home to Barbary macaques. In this photo the road runs through a hole in a rocky headland, with the sea and the hazy coast beyond.

Puzzle tip: the rock arch and the white wall are the place to start; the calm sea and the pale sky come last.
