About Beach Fales at Lalomanu, Upolu

The fale is the traditional Samoan house: a raised floor and a roof on posts, with no walls, so that the breeze can pass through. Along Lalomanu Beach, families from the village run simple beach fales where travellers sleep a few steps from the sea, often with meals cooked by their hosts. Lalomanu is often named among the most beautiful beaches in the South Pacific, with soft white sand and a calm lagoon inside the reef. This photo looks west along the empty beach, with colourful fales under the trees.

Puzzle tip: start with the colourful fales and the green trees, then the long white beach and the pale sea.
