About Lion of Babylon

The Lion of Babylon is a large basalt statue of a lion standing over a fallen man. It was found in 1876 among the ruins of Babylon, the ancient city on the Euphrates south of Baghdad, and its age is still debated: it may date from the time of King Nebuchadnezzar II in the 6th century BC, or be even older. Babylon, famous for the Ishtar Gate and the legend of the Hanging Gardens, became a World Heritage Site in 2019. The statue still stands where it was found, on a stone pedestal under the open sky.

Puzzle tip: the dark stone lion is the centre of the picture; the pale pedestal and the sky fit around it.
