About Mir Castle, Belarus

Mir Castle is a fortified complex in western Belarus, begun in the early sixteenth century. Its red-brick towers, pale walls and later residential wings show how a fortress could become an aristocratic home. The castle is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and stands near a pond and formal grounds. The photograph contrasts its brick towers with white walls and a cloudy sky. Damaged in the war of 1812, the castle was bought in 1895 by the Svyatopolk-Mirsky family, who began to restore it.

Puzzle tip: build the brick towers first and use their different roof shapes as guides.
