About Red Brick Warehouses in Winter, Hakodate

Hakodate, at the southern tip of Hokkaido, was one of the first Japanese ports opened to foreign trade in 1859, and Western merchants and consuls left churches and brick buildings on its hillsides. Along the harbour stand the Kanemori red brick warehouses, built for shipping companies more than a century ago and now full of shops and restaurants. The view at night from Mount Hakodate over the narrow city between two bays is among the most famous in Japan. This photo shows the snowy street beside the warehouses.

Puzzle tip: start with the red brick warehouses, then the snowy street and the cars, and finish with the hillside and the sky.
