About Red Torii of Hakone Shrine

Hakone Shrine is said to have been founded in 757, and for centuries samurai and travellers on the old Tokaido road stopped here to pray for a safe journey over the mountains. The shrine buildings stand in a forest of tall cedars on the hillside above Lake Ashi, and stone steps lead down to its famous gate in the water. In this photo the bright orange torii stands at the edge of the dark green lake, backed by the dense forest that covers the shore.

Puzzle tip: start with the orange gate, then the forest behind it, and finish with the dark water and its reflections.
