About The Hairpin Bends of Trollstigen

Trollstigen, the Trolls' Ladder, is a mountain road that climbs out of the Isterdalen valley in eleven hairpin bends up a steep mountainside, with gradients of up to about ten percent. It was opened in 1936 after eight years of work, much of it by hand. Halfway up, the road crosses the Stigfossen waterfall on a stone bridge, and at the top a viewing platform hangs over the valley. Because of snow, the road is usually open only from late spring to autumn. In this photo the white ribbon of the road zigzags up the green slope beside the foaming waterfall.

Puzzle tip: start with the white waterfall and the road, then the green slopes, and finish with the far valley and the sky.
