About Ruined Church among Palms, Savai'i

Savai'i is the largest island of Samoa and one of the largest in Polynesia, a great shield volcano that is still young in geological terms. Between 1905 and 1911 lava from Mount Matavanu flowed down to the north coast and buried several villages, and at Saleaula the walls of a church were left standing in a field of black rock. Old church ruins like this are a reminder of how much the island's volcanoes have shaped village life. This photo shows the pale, roofless walls of an old church framed by tall coconut palms.

Puzzle tip: start with the pale church walls, then the palm trunks around them and the grass and sky between them.
