About The Merlion, Singapore

The Merlion, with the head of a lion and the body of a fish, is the mascot of Singapore. The fish body recalls the city's origins as a fishing village called Temasek, meaning sea town, while the lion's head refers to its later name, Singapura, the Lion City. The 8.6-metre statue, spouting water into Marina Bay, was completed in 1972.

Puzzle tip: the white statue and its stream of water are easy to spot; the towers behind need patience.
