About The Salute under a Cloudy Sky, Venice

According to tradition, the Salute church rests on more than a million wooden piles driven into the lagoon. Its architect, Baldassare Longhena, was still in his twenties when he won the competition to design it, and he worked on it for the rest of his life; it was finished in 1687, five years after his death. Its huge scroll-shaped buttresses are nicknamed the big ears.

Puzzle tip: the church and the houses in front of it give lots of detail; the grey sky needs sorting by shade.
