About Three-Toed Sloth in the Rainforest, Costa Rica

Two kinds of sloth live in Costa Rica: the brown-throated three-toed sloth and Hoffmann's two-toed sloth. They spend almost their whole lives hanging upside down in the treetops, eating leaves that give them very little energy, so they move slowly and sleep for many hours a day. Tiny algae grow in their fur and tint it green, which helps them hide among the leaves. About once a week a sloth climbs down to the ground to relieve itself. This photo shows a three-toed sloth holding on to a branch in the forest.

Puzzle tip: start with the sloth's face and pale fur, then fill the green leaves around it by shade.
