About Windmills of Zaanse Schans

Zaanse Schans is a small village of wooden houses and windmills on the bank of the River Zaan, just north of Amsterdam. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the Zaan region was one of the first industrial areas in the world, with hundreds of windmills that sawed timber for ships, pressed oil from seeds and ground spices, mustard and paint. From the 1960s, old mills and houses from the area were moved here to save them. Several of the mills still work, and visitors can watch them grind and press much as they did three hundred years ago.

Puzzle tip: start with the green mill and the wooden houses; the water and the sky come last.
