About Wooden Farmhouse at Zaanse Schans

The houses of the Zaan region were built of wood rather than brick, because the soft, wet peat ground could not carry heavy walls. They were painted green, with white window frames and gables, and the colour became so typical that it is still known as Zaans green. Many of the old houses in Zaanse Schans were brought here from nearby villages, together with barns, shops and a cheese farm. In this photo a farmhouse with a red roof stands by a pond, and its reflection doubles the picture in the still water.

Puzzle tip: start with the green house and the red roof; the reflection in the water is easier once the house is done.
