About Château de Beynac above the Dordogne

The Château de Beynac stands on top of a limestone cliff about a hundred and fifty metres above the river Dordogne, in the Périgord region of south-western France. It was built in the twelfth century and was held for a time by the English king Richard the Lionheart. During the Hundred Years' War the castle was French, while the castle of Castelnaud, just across the river, was often held by the English, and the two rivals watched each other across the valley. Its thick walls and square keep are seen here against a clear blue sky, above the rocks and trees.

Puzzle tip: start with the castle keep and its walls, then the cliff and the green trees, and finish with the blue sky.
