About U Bein Bridge over Taungthaman Lake

U Bein Bridge crosses Taungthaman Lake near Amarapura, just south of Mandalay, for about 1.2 kilometres. It was built around 1850 from teak posts and planks taken from the old royal palace when the capital moved from Amarapura to Mandalay, and it is named after the mayor who had it built. It is thought to be the oldest and longest teak footbridge in the world. Monks, villagers and visitors walk across it every day, and at sunset its long row of posts makes a famous silhouette.

Puzzle tip: the bridge is a clear line across the picture; the water is easier once the line is in place.
