About Street of White Houses, Paramaribo

Paramaribo grew up along the Suriname River as the main port of a Dutch plantation colony, and its streets are still lined with the white wooden houses of merchants and officials. Today it is one of the most mixed cities in the world: its people have roots in Africa, India, Java, China, Europe and the Indigenous peoples of the Amazon, and a mosque and a synagogue stand side by side on Keizerstraat. Dutch is the official language, but most people also speak Sranan Tongo. This photo looks down a long street of white houses with red bases and shuttered windows.

Puzzle tip: start with the white house fronts and their red bases, then the long street and the blue sky at the end.
