About Elephants Bathing, Queen Elizabeth National Park

Water is never far away in Queen Elizabeth National Park. The Kazinga Channel, about 32 kilometres long, links Lake George and Lake Edward and has one of the largest numbers of hippos in Africa along its banks. Elephants come down to the water in family groups to drink, bathe and cool off in the heat of the day, while buffaloes, crocodiles and many kinds of birds share the shore. Boat trips on the channel let visitors watch them from close by. In this photo a group of elephants, with a young one among them, stands in the water below a bare bank.

Puzzle tip: the grey elephants are the easiest part; the green hillside and the floating plants come at the end.
