About Islands of Lake Bunyonyi

Lake Bunyonyi lies high in the hills of south-western Uganda, close to the border with Rwanda, at about 1,960 metres above sea level. Its name means "place of many little birds", and its 29 islands are scattered across water that is free of crocodiles and hippos, so people swim and paddle dugout canoes on it. The hills around are covered with terraced fields that farmers have cut into the slopes over generations. One tiny island, Akampene, was once a place where unmarried pregnant girls were abandoned. In this photo green islands and hills fade into the hazy distance.

Puzzle tip: start with the dark trees in the front and the islands; the grey water and sky need patience.
